I’m Darren, a 52-year-old business owner, father, husband, and an endlessly curious soul with a penchant for entrepreneurship. This blog is my playground for sharing that curiosity, my family’s adventures, and much more.
Why I Started FreshFrom50
My blogging journey started with a dual purpose: to dive deep into the world of SEO for my business needs and to channel my creativity into something that could teach and entertain.
But it’s not just about me. As a family man with a wife, two daughters, and our newest addition, Lola, our ‘very lively’ German Shepherd puppy, I started this blog as a roadmap for my youngest daughter, embarking on her blogging adventure to support herself through university. I wanted to learn the ropes first-hand, to offer her—and you—something genuine and valuable.
A Journey Through the Business World
Before I became the restless entrepreneur you know today, my career began in the structured world of a global financial services company in Reading. After five years, I returned to my roots in my hometown as an Insurance Broker, which marked the start of a diverse career path.
The world of sales beckoned next, leading me to an IT company before I embarked on my first venture as a business owner in distributing computer consumables. This diverse experience laid the foundation for my entry into the vaping industry, followed by ventures into CBD, digital marketing, candle making, and, most recently, honing my skills in photography and videography.
Each step on this journey has taught me invaluable lessons about business, creativity, and the pursuit of passion.
The Mission Behind the Blog
FreshFrom50 isn’t just another blog; it’s a commitment to sharing life’s lessons, challenges, and joys that come after hitting the half-century mark. With a household that’s always on the go — especially now that Lola has joined the clan – and a business landscape that’s ever-evolving, I’m here to talk about everything that might interest us men over 50, from sports and health to finance, electric cars, and even the occasional chat about vaping. It’s all about providing a unique blend of personal anecdotes, professional insights, and lifestyle tips.
My Story
From my childhood roots in West London, through the corporate halls in Reading, to navigating the waters of business in Basingstoke, my life has been a tapestry of experiences.
A die-hard Chelsea FC fan, a father navigating the bittersweet symphony of life, and an entrepreneur constantly looking for the next challenge—these roles define me and shape the content of FreshFrom50.
And now, with Lola joining our family, our adventures have become more lively and full of surprises.
